Instructions
1. Dry the bread
Spread bread cubes on baking sheets and bake at 300°F (150°C) for 15–20 minutes until dry but not hard.
2. Cook the sausage
In a large skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until browned. Remove with a slotted spoon.
3. Sauté vegetables
In the same pan, melt butter and cook onion and celery until soft, about 8 minutes. Add garlic and herbs; cook 1 minute more.
4. Combine
In a large bowl, mix bread cubes, sausage, vegetable mixture, and any optional add-ins.
5. Add moisture
Mix eggs with 2 1/2 cups broth and pour over stuffing. Toss gently. Add more broth if needed—the bread should be moist but not mushy.
6. Bake
Transfer to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
- Uncover and bake another 15–20 minutes until crispy and golden on top.
Make-Ahead Tip
You can assemble the stuffing a day ahead and refrigerate overnight before baking.
